(Park Hills, MO) The possibility of a 13th Community College in Missouri could cause more taxes and fewer students for some schools. The issue was discussed at Thursday's MAC board of Trustees meeting. There are 12 community colleges in Missouri and this measure would allow a 13th in the Three Rivers service region. According to Gilgour if approved by voters it would create another tax for that part of the region and possibly draw some students away from Mineral Area College.
In other business at the Mineral Area College Board of Trustees meeting the latest enrollment figures for summer classes show an increase with enrollment up 31% and credit hours up 40%. Trustees were also informed concerning a vaccine clinic coming to the college. It's set for sometime next week at the Mineral Area College Campus. Two awards from the Missouri Community College Association were handed out including the 2020 Governor's excellence in Teaching Award given to Emily Murdock and the 2020 Technology Innovation Award which went to Dr. Bennett Wood.
